Youngstown, OH: New autism diagnostic clinic to address "growing need"

Updated: Feb 25

Feb 16, 2025, Mahoning Matters: Easterseals of Northeast Ohio expand autism services with new Youngstown diagnostic clinic

Families seeking answers about autism will now have access to timely and comprehensive diagnostic services with the launch of Easterseals of Northeast Ohio’s new Autism Diagnostic Clinic.

Located at the organization’s Youngstown facility, the clinic is designed to meet the growing need for early autism assessments in the community and to guide families through the often complex next steps following a diagnosis.

The clinic will be led by an independently licensed therapist with deep expertise in behavioral health and autism diagnostics. The dedicated space has been renovated to create a sensory-friendly environment, ensuring that children and families feel comfortable and supported during the evaluation process.

The Youngstown Foundation and Community Foundation of the Mahoning Valley each provided funding for the start-up of the clinic.

“There is a critical need for autism diagnostic services in our region, with many families waiting over a year for an assessment,” said Jody Klase, CEO of Easterseals of Northeast Ohio. “Through this clinic, we’re reducing barriers to early diagnosis and helping families navigate the next steps with confidence, ensuring children get the support they need as early as possible.”

Beyond diagnosis, Easterseals will provide families with emotional support and hands-on assistance in connecting with appropriate services, schools and therapy providers. A licensed social worker will serve as a client navigator, helping parents understand available resources and identify the best options for their child’s development and well-being. . . .

Initially, the clinic will focus on Medicaid-insured children, with plans to expand access over time.

The launch of the Autism Diagnostic Clinic aligns with Easterseals’ broader strategic vision to strengthen disability services and build a more inclusive Northeast Ohio.
