Milan, MI: Area schools to screen K to 5 students for dyslexia
Milan Area Schools will introduce a new literacy and dyslexia screening tool for students in kindergarten through fifth grade during the 2026-27 school year.
Assistant Superintendent Jennifer Bookout told the Board of Education Aug. 12 that the district received just under $20,000 through a Section 35m literacy grant to purchase the new screening tool.
The screening will help teachers identify students who may need additional help with reading, including those who show characteristics of dyslexia. . . .
The new screening comes as Michigan schools implement the state’s K-12 literacy and dyslexia laws, which include requirements for reading screening and monitoring student progress. . . .
Teachers are expected to receive training on the new system before it is rolled out this school year.
