(UK) Wolsey Park: New school "being built to meet the demand for SEND school places"

Dec 16, 2025, Essex County Council: Work to start on new Wolsey Park SEND school

Among those present were Councillor Tony Ball, Essex County Council’s Cabinet Member for Education Excellence, Lifelong Learning and Employability, Mark Francois, MP for Rayleigh and Wickford, Andy Hodgkinson, CEO of Zenith Multi Academy Trust and Chris Bladon, Divisional Chair at Vistry, the developers of Wolsey Park.

The visit signals the beginning of preparations for construction. This will start in early 2026 and be carried out by Kier Construction.

The school is going to be split across two sites. The Wolsey Park development in Rayleigh will provide KS1 and KS2 capacity. The former site of Chetwood Primary School in South Woodham Ferrers will provide KS3 and KS4 capacity . It will work as an all-through school, offering 252 places in total. Zenith Multi Academy Trust will run the new school.

We first announced the new SEND school in 2024. It will be the first one in the Rochford District and is being built to meet the demand for SEND school places.
