Nov 25, 2025, The News: "Exciting new chapter" at former Kingscourt School site with new provision for autistic children in pipeline
A new chapter is pending at the site of a private school which closed down this year after a charity has confirmed plans for a provision for autistic children are in the pipeline.
Kingscourt School, in Waterlooville, closed its doors at the end of August following a consultation period amid a declining birth rate and demand.
The school, which was part of the Cognita Group, operated for 30 years and despite a ‘Friends of Kingscourt’ group being established to look at ways to save the setting, the group continued with the closure, resulting in the building being vacant.
Kingscourt School took to social media on Thursday, August 21, saying: “After 30 incredible years, it is with heavy hearts we announce the closure of Kingscourt School. This school has been more than a place of learning, it has been a family community filled with joy, kindness, and unforgettable memories.”
The Licensed Trade Charity (LTC) has now confirmed it has acquired the site which will be used to expand its specialist education provision for children and young people with a diagnosis of autism.
Chris Welham, CEO of the Licensed Trade Charity, said: “This marks an exciting new chapter for LTC and for the families we serve.
“Kennington School builds on that legacy, and we are proud of the stability and credibility that have enabled us to take this step. We look forward to bringing this important new school to life.”
Over the coming months, LTC will progress site planning, engage with local stakeholders, and develop a curriculum and learning model tailored to the needs of autistic pupils, and it will form part of the LTC Education Group.. .
