Children at a specialist school on Teesside passed their last day of term with
flying colours. Kiora Hall, a school for autistic children and young adults in Stockton, ended the Spring term with a colour run for staff and pupils to celebrate World Autism Acceptance Day.
More than 30 children, along with dozens of staff and families, took part in the short course while volunteers threw coloured powder, marking the start of Autism Acceptance Month, which runs throughout April. Organiser Jenn Charvill, a Level 4 teaching assistant at the North East Autism Society school, said: “A Colour Run just seemed like a really fun thing to do before our school holidays, and a way to show that we’re a really diverse school where everyone is included.
“It’s been great to bring parents and families into school and celebrate Autism Acceptance together.”
Principal Sean Davies added: "The Kiora Hall Colour Run was about more than just fun, it was about recognising the unique strengths, voices, and individuality of every learner. By actively involving our learners, we created an environment where they were not just participants, but the heart of the celebration.
"The Colour Run symbolises the diversity within our school community, with every splash of colour representing acceptance, positivity, and the beauty of difference. Having parents and carers join us strengthens our sense of togetherness and reinforces the importance of working in partnership to support our learners."
