Nov 5, 2025, Outlook Live: New SEND education centre in Ham reaches major construction milestone
Suburb of London
A new specialist education centre for children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) in Ham has reached a key construction milestone, marking the "topping out" of the new Clarendon School satellite site.
The purpose-built facility, due to open in Autumn 2026, will create 77 new school places for pupils with moderate learning difficulties and complex needs, including autism.
The centre aims to provide high-quality, inclusive education closer to home, reducing the need for out-of-borough placements and long daily journeys for families.
Councillor Gareth Roberts, Leader of Richmond Council, said: "This topping-out marks a significant step forward for our borough. . . .
John Bolton, Regional Director at Kier Construction London & Thames Valley, said: "Today marks a significant milestone in the delivery of this exceptional new and highly sustainable facility that will meet the vital need for specialist SEND education in the borough.
"We're delivering a purpose-built environment that not only supports improved educational outcomes but also sets a new benchmark for sustainability."
Approved in 2023, the development is part of Richmond Council's wider investment in specialist SEND provision.
