Feb 9, 2026, Echo News: Essex new NHS ADHD and autism providers to slash wait times
NEW providers for ADHD and autism services have been confirmed in a “major expansion” of treatment availability across south Essex
The Mid and South Essex Integrated Care Board unveiled three new specialist providers for assessment and treatment to slash wait times in the region.
This is in addition to four new providers that will start accepting referrals for children and young people in the coming weeks.
The board said families had been “waiting too long” for assessment and treatment and the new providers would bolster choice for families to ensure access through providers in the area in a “safe” and “coordinated” way.
Tom Abell, chief executive from NHS Mid and South Essex said “Currently many families are waiting too long for Autism and ADHD assessment and treatment which we are determined to address.
“The new providers that we have commissioned will give more choice for families requiring assessment and treatment and will help to bring down waiting times.”
Further announcements and access to the treatments can be accessed via a dedicated page on the care board’s website.
The announcement was welcomed by councils across the region, with Basildon Council Labour leader Gavin Callaghan saying the providers would alleviate pressure after over a decade of “real-terms cuts” to NHS services.
“Mid and South Essex NHS has confirmed a major expansion in ADHD and autism services, with new providers coming online to cut waiting times for both adults and young people,” he said. . . .
