Feb 14, 2026, Dorset Council to go ahead with building new special school

A new special school with up to 75 places will go ahead in Portland after Dorset Council confirmed its decision to proceed with the project.

The authority chose to move forward with the Osprey Quay Special School development led by the Department for Education, rather than explore alternative proposals for delivering the same number of places in a different way.

Clare Sutton, Dorset Council’s cabinet portfolio member for children’s service, said: "The school is central to our shared ambition of improving educational outcomes and ensuring every child has access to high quality provision.
