(UK) Bury: Special school for 200 students adds $17M expansion
A £13m [$17M] investment is helping transform education for children with additional needs.
Millward Primary School, a special school in Bury for children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), celebrated the news with an official opening ceremony.
The project, funded through capital allocations from the Department for Education, includes a new wing with seven classrooms, a multi-use hall, sensory rooms, a rebound room, and expanded outdoor play areas.
Councillor Sandra Walmsley, Bury Council’s cabinet member for children and young people, said: "This investment represents a major step forward in our commitment to improving SEND provision in Bury.
"The new wing provides outstanding facilities that will make a real difference to children and young people aged 5-11, giving them access to specialist support and learning environments that help them flourish."
The expansion enables Millwood to support more than 200 primary-aged pupils with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), offering a larger, purpose-built environment designed to help them thrive.
It forms part of Bury Council’s broader strategy to improve SEND provision across the borough by increasing capacity and reducing the need for children to travel out of area for suitable education. . . .
"Millwood is an exceptional school, and this expansion will allow even more local families to benefit from the high-quality education, care and support it provides." . . .
