(Canada) Manitoba: Govt invests $3.2M (US) for autism early intervention to reduce waitlists
The Manitoba government is investing $5 million [$3.2M US] in children's autism services delivered by St. Amant, with the funding intended to expand early intervention and help reduce waitlists across the province.
Premier Wab Kinew and Families Minister Nahanni Fontaine said the investment will help children and families access needed support. . . .
“Every child deserves the opportunity to reach their full potential, and every family deserves access to the supports they need,” said Kinew. “By expanding autism services, we're helping more children thrive and making it easier for families to get the care they count on."
The investment is part of $30 million [$21M US] in autism-specific funding from the Department of Families. The province has also identified improving access to autism services for adults as an area of focus.
The additional funding will allow St. Amant to respond to growing demand for autism services, including behavioural supports, case management, and early intervention.
“Our government knows the incredible impact St.Amant’s services have in supporting children with autism and their families,” said Fontaine. “This investment will ensure more children across Manitoba have early access to autism supports, while helping build a more responsive and co-ordinated autism service system for the future.”
