A SECOND sensory room has opened to support children with autism and special educational needs.

Green Lane Primary School in Manningham, Bradford, has expanded its autism provision, doubling capacity from 12 to 24 places and furthering its commitment to inclusive education.

Joanna Baxendale-Stead, headteacher at Green Lane Primary School, said: "Today was a very special day at Green Lane Primary as we opened our second sensory room.

"It was wonderful to see some of our children enjoying the space straight away.

"Their smiles and sense of calm showed us just how valuable these spaces can be."

The school operates two resourced provisions (RPs): one for children with communication and interaction needs, including autism, and another for children with developmental language disorders (DLD).

Children are placed through a consultation process led by the Bradford SEND Team for those with an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP).

The school’s approach to inclusion is tiered to meet differing levels of need.

Children requiring the highest level of support are based in Orchard House and Saplings, both now equipped with sensory rooms and access to a specialised playground.
