Board approves new downtown gas station
Neenah Minimart received approval from the City Board of Appeals for a light variance at 222 Jackson St., at the southeast corner of Jackson Street and High Avenue.
Plan documents call for renovating the existing building, which many years ago was a gas station, into a gas station and convenience store.
Shekhar Adhikari, who owns Neenah Minimart and the Jackson Street property, asked the Board of Appeals to approve a light variance at the site to exceed the 0.50 foot-candle allowance. which plan documents say is impossible to meet given the unique situation of the property on a diagonal as well as its small size, 0.35 acres. The areas that would exceed the light allowance are not adjacent to private property, a staff report to the board noted….
"Granting the variance will not result in any harm to the public interest, as the parcel is located on a principal arterial street within a commercial corridor," the report said.
