Kirksville, MO: In-school health clinic; board member wants to start with mental health

Oct 11, 2017, Kirksville (MO) Daily Express: Kirksville R-III to look at school-based health center proposal The Kirksville R-III School District is planning to form a committee to investigate the possibility of establishing a school-based health center on the district’s campus. School Board members discussed the idea during their meeting on Wednesday inside the Administration Building. Northeast Missouri Health Council CEO Andy Grimm proposed the idea of the school district partnering with them to establish a health center during a School Board meeting last month. A school-based health center is a primary care clinic that is located on primary and secondary school campuses. A school district and a federally qualified health center, like the Northeast Missouri Health Council, would partner to establish the center.... The two entities would work together to figure out what health services, like primary care, dental, mental health and counseling, would be provided through the center to district students, staff and faculty members. … School Board member Nan Davis said she would like to focus on the mental health care for students. “I would almost rather start with mental health, which I know that was not Andy (Grimm’s) suggestion, but I think there’s such a huge need for that. That’s where I would like to see the emphasis,” School Board member Nan Davis said.
