(Ireland) Kildare: Day care center for autistic individuals to open

Nov 4, 2025, Kildare Nationalist: New day services centre for autistic people gets green light for Athy

A PLANNING application seeking permission for a change of use from retail to a day services centre to accommodate autistic individuals and those with intellectual disabilities has been granted by Kildare County Council.

The application was submitted by Muiríosa Foundation, a voluntary health organisation “dedicated to empowering Autistic individuals and people with intellectual disabilities.”

The organisation is funded by the Department of Health and Children through the HSE, and operates in more than 35 locations across the Midlands of Ireland, including centres in Monasterevin, Naas, Kildare, and Rathangan. . . .

Externally, the proposal includes the creation of a safe drop-off area to the rear (eastern side) of the unit, along with associated site works to facilitate the new use.

When delivered, the development will provide day services for the local community, adding greatly to the social infrastructure of Athy’s centre.
