(Spain) Alicante: 110 place special school being built for $9M

The Minister of Education, Culture and Universities, Carmen OrtíDuring her visit to the construction site, she highlighted the Consell's commitment to supporting students with specific educational needs. Special Education Center (CEE) El Somniin Alicante. The new center is part of the Edificant Program and has a total budget of 8.056.471,56 Euros, after expanding in 2.295.382,89 Euros compared to the initial 2020 forecast. During the visit, Ortí emphasized that "special education is a priority for this Consell because we are talking about equity, social justice, and ensuring that every student receives the support they need under the best possible conditions." She added that the additional cost is being absorbed to prevent the infrastructure project from being halted and to guarantee that families have access to a modern and accessible center.


The new CEE will have 110 school places all with dining service, and with a staff made up of 37 teachers y 13 Special Education technicians. In addition, five students will have individual school transport.


The building is being constructed on a plot of land Sqm 10.483Located between Isla de Corfú Avenue and PAU 2, the project was ceded by the Alicante City Council. It is a single-story building with a square shape and a central courtyard that facilitates internal movement and ensures natural ventilation and lighting in all rooms.


The facilities will include specialized classrooms, rehabilitation spaces, speech therapy and sensory stimulation areas, a library, a nursing station, a dining hall, a multipurpose room, and offices for psycho-pedagogical guidance and social work. As the regional minister argued, "Investing in special education is not an expense; it is a first-rate social investment that directly impacts the quality of life of families and promotes genuine inclusion."


For many families in Alicante, this infrastructure represents an improvement in resources, specialized care, and educational stability. Generalitat It maintains that the objective is to guarantee personalized and quality care in a fully adapted environment.

Possible boost to higher artistic education in Alicante


At the same time, Ortí announced that the Regional Ministry is considering establishing a higher education center for music and dance in the city. According to her, this initiative reflects the Regional Government's commitment to strengthening higher artistic education in the Valencian Community.
