June 29, 2025, Radio Kerry: Kerry TD calls for more early intervention classes
A Kerry TD has criticised the lack of early intervention classes in the county for students with autism or ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder).
Sinn Féin TD Pa Daly has said that Cork’s 22 classes compared to Kerry’s 2 was deeply unfair, and has called for the immediate sanction of more classes for the upcoming school year.
Castlemaine National School and Holy Cross Primary School in Killarney are the only schools currently providing early intervention classes for ASD students, according to the
National Council for Special Education, and places are limited.
Deputy Daly has called on the Government, and the Minister for Education to sanction early intervention classes for Kerry well in advance of the beginning of the new school term in September 2025.
