What will happen in another 4 years? How can we go on like this? This is a national (and international) problem of monumental proportions. We have an entire new class of children who cannot be accommodated by the system: many are manifestly neurologically impaired. Meanwhile, the government and the medical profession sleep on regardless.

The new special classes will support Cork children with additional needs

Schools in Cork will benefit from 14 new special education classes in the 2026–2027 academic year.

Cork North West Fine Gael TD John Paul O’Shea says the additional classes will provide vital support for children with special educational needs and their families.

Two schools in Cork North West — Scoil na Tríonóide in Newmarket and Millstreet Boys National School — will each receive an additional class.

Deputy O’Shea says the move reflects the Government’s commitment to inclusive education, backed by over three billion euro in special education funding under Budget 2026.
