According to Dickson County Director of Schools Dr. Christie Southerland, Stuart-Burns Elementary School currently utilizes the services of another therapy dog named Stuart, making Mia the second therapy dog in the school district.  . . .

Dr. Southerland said, “Our goal with Mia is to have a therapy dog  that will offer students and staff emotional and mental health support, and promote a positive school environment.

There are many benefits to therapy dogs in the school and classrooms.

“According to the Alliance of Therapy Dogs, some benefits include: Physical, Social, Cognitive, Emotional and Mental health benefits.  We are excited about our new friends and look forward to working with them in supporting our students and faculty,” Southerland noted.
