April 11, 2025, BucksCoToday: Keystone Elementary School Celebrates Autism Acceptance Month
To create an inclusive space for all students, Keystone Elementary School in Croydon went outside for a joyful, awareness-raising bubble-blowing session, reports Nick Iadonisi for 6abc.
“We really want to celebrate inclusivity and diversity,” said Crystal Smith-Herman, Assistant Principal at Keystone Elementary School. “Not just with our students with autism, but all students of all ability levels.”
Hundreds of students blew bubbles to symbolize the sensory experiences and motor skills of individuals with autism.
“Hand-eye coordination with blowing bubbles is also something that we work on with fine motor skills, with students with autism,” said Smith-Herman. “We thought it was a great way to be inclusive with all our learners’ needs and have an activity that brings us all together as a community.”
Ben Hartranft from “Benergy1 Presentations” joined students for some bubble-blowing fun and to speak to them about autism.
“There are some times, kids for different reasons don’t always feel like they’re being valued or seen at school, with their peers, or within their community,” said Smith-Herman. “And I really hope today, after listening to Ben speak, I really feel like they found their place in the world today.”
