What will happen in another 4 years? How can we go on like this? This is a national (and international) problem of monumental proportions. We have an entire new class of children who cannot be accommodated by the system: many are manifestly neurologically impaired. Meanwhile, the government and the medical profession sleep on regardless.

Funding for new special classes has been approved for primary and post-primary level across Sligo and Leitrim.

The Minister for Education has announced the allocation of funding for eight new special classes for schools in Leitrim and Sligo.

Over 350 classes have received the green light across the country for 2026 and 2027, with hopes that students with additional needs can access appropriate supports in their local schools.

Speaking to Ocean Fm news Minister Frank Feighan says this is the way forward.
