Baton Rouge, LA: State's first tuition-free school for children with autism announced

Nov 28, 2017 Fox 44, Baton Rouge, LA: Emerge School for Autism Kindergarten applications due Dec. 15 The Emerge School for Autism is currently accepting applications for its first ever Kindergarten classes for the 2018-2019 school year. Applications and required documentation must be submitted by Dec. 15. To qualify for enrollment, children must live in East Baton Rouge Parish, have a DSM-V diagnosis from a qualified specialist, and have a current IEP from a parish in Louisiana. Additionally, children must be of Kindergarten age (age five by Sept. 30, 2018). A lottery for qualified applicants will take place in February 2018. The new entity will be the first tuition-free school for children with autism in the state of Louisiana. The school’s vision is to transform the lives of children with an Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) diagnosis through an innovative school model that focuses on communication, social and behavioral goals, closing learning gaps, and preparing students for successful lives. The school will be located at LSU’s Innovation Park, at 7784 Innovation Park Drive.
