The Wichita Police Department now has a program available to improve the way officers approach people with autism.
Last week, the Wichita Police Department, Heartspring, Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office and Sedgwick County Emergency Communications announced the availability of applications for the Autism Outreach Program on the WPD website.
The program is specifically designed for people with autism and their families. Participation in this program allows for information identifying your loved one as a person with autism to be entered in our system and through stickers that can be placed on your vehicle, door, window, etc. These enable officers to interact more meaningfully with those who need specific care….
“I am extremely proud of the creative team who had the drive to get this program put together. WPD will continue to work diligently on ways that we can serve all of our community members,” Wichita police chief Joe Sullivan said.
