Scott Walker called for a special session of the Wisconsin State Legislature to pass a comprehensive school safety plan. His plan includes establishing the Office of School Safety under the Wisconsin Department of Justice; creating a $100 million School Safety Grant Program under the Office of School Safety; requiring mandatory reporting for any threats of school violence; amending a bullying statute to include prompt parental notification; incorporating Trauma-Informed Care (TIC) and Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEO) into training programs; strengthening school safety plan requirements; and encouraging cooperation with local law enforcement. Walker said he is putting $100 million behind the plan. Hopefully, action to keep students safe in schools can happen quickly. Students deserve to feel safe in schools.
