WHIPPANY, NJ - —The Calais School is excited to announce the arrival of Tenney, a Canine Companions® Facility Dog. The school is now the first and only school in New Jersey to boast a Canine Companions® Facility Dog on staff.

Tenney, a 2-year-old yellow golden Retriever/Labrador mix, will be working with the Calais School’s Admissions’s team where he will be participating in school tours, meet & greets and special events - offering his emotional support to help alleviate anxiety for both students and parents….

“We feel very privileged and honored to hold the title of the first and only school in New Jersey with a Canine Companion,” says Cheryl Porter-Avino, Calais’ Director of Admissions who will be working with Tenney as his handler….

Tenney comes to Calais having already been trained in over 40 commands such as "visit" and "lap. He can also pull toy wagons, push drawers closed and retrieve all kinds of items. These existing skills will assist in creating positive and calming interactions between Tenney and students….
