Mar 28, 2018, Wahoo, NE, Ashland Gazette: Public gives input on school growth options http://www.wahoo-ashland-waverly.com/ashland/news/public-gives-input-on-school-growth-options/article_81ddc9d8-32a5-11e8-aa38-5b13c9e52757.html
The Board of Education invited about 35 residents of the district to attend the public meeting on Monday night at the middle school/high school cafeteria. Other interested members of the public were also welcome, and a handful attended.
The purpose of the meeting was to present the public with information on current and anticipated enrollment and that status of available space in the existing facilities. …
Special education students make up one-fifth of the student popular, and that enrollment continues to grow, according to Special Education Coordinator Kristin Fangmeyer.
“Currently at least 20 percent of our student body right now is special education,” she said.
Over the years, the district has added new levels of special education programming, but that requires more space. They also have to be creative in order to find space, but that is getting more and more difficult, Fangmeyer said.
“You can think outside of the box only to a certain point,” she said.
