KANAWHA COUNTY, W.Va. (WOWK) – There is a critical change to West Virginia’s School Aid Formula making its way through the state senate.
This bill includes supplemental funding for public schools in order to accommodate the state’s growing number of special needs students.
After two sessions in the education committee, the bill now heads to the finance committee, where senators will hammer out the numbers.
“We do have several education bills going through there, and some of them are more expensive,” said Senator Vince Deeds. “The fiscal notes are right around $90 million. This is a $45 million fiscal note, but it touches the most critical need, which is in special education.”
Proponents of the bill say the supplemental funding for those with special needs is essential.
