Red, a 10-month-old hypoallergenic labradoodle, joined the VVS school district about four weeks ago as a therapy dog-in-training, in an initiative through school social worker Brandy-Lee Lappin…. Both students and faculty are thrilled with the addition of Red to the middle school-high school setting, the district noted. … The Lappin family fully owns and cares for Red, said the VVS district. Lappin noted that four years ago she had attended a training on implementing therapy dogs in schools. “Mental health needs were on the rise...and I had talked with colleagues who were seeing the benefits of therapy dogs in their school districts,” Lappin remarked. …
