July 24, 2025, York Mix: New school set to open in York ‘for young people who need it most’
A new school is preparing to open its doors in York after being given the go-ahead by Ofsted.
Inspire Academy in Acomb is an independent special school.
It will teach students aged 11 to 16 from across the city with social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs and other special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND).
Inspire Academy is part of York-based Excel Learning Trust. It will offer personalised education for up to 40 pupils. . . .
It has been officially registered by the Department for Education following a successful pre-registration inspection by Ofsted last month. . . .
The report said that Inspire Academy is “likely to meet all the independent school standards when it opens”.
This school represents our dedication to inclusive education and supporting every learner’s potential. With experienced, fully trained staff, dedicated facilities, and a focus on wellbeing and achievement, Inspire is set to become a valuable addition to specialist education in the region.” Inspire Academy is situated at Cornlands Road, Acomb, and will begin welcoming pupils in the autumn term.
