(UK) Worcester MP promises "family hubs" to solve SPED problem

Dec 7, 2025, Worcester News: MP backs new Best Start Family Hubs in Worcestershire

An MP is backing support for families of children with special educational needs.

Labour's MP for Worcester, Tom Collins, has praised the government's introduction of early SEND (special educational needs and disabilities) assistance through the new Best Start Family Hubs.

Families of SEND children in Worcestershire have long faced significant challenges within a fractured system, often suffering extensive waiting periods for assessments and only limited assistance.

However, Mr Collins said: "This Labour government is now putting that right."

From April, every family hub will feature a dedicated SEND practitioner who will provide families with clear guidance, conduct early developmental checks for children, and facilitate prompt access to specialist assistance.

He said: "Too many families in Worcestershire with SEND have been badly let down. . .

The Best Start Family Hubs aim to streamline aid for parents by uniting speech and language groups, health visitors, parenting support, and SEND advice under one umbrella.

Seven in 10 of the new hubs will open in the communities 'hit hardest by past cuts - ensuring families who were left behind for years are finally put first'.  . . .

Labour is launching a public engagement campaign across the country as part of its plans to reform the SEND system.
