July 21, 2020, SPIRE FM: Plans for new South Wiltshire SEND school take step forward https://www.spirefm.co.uk/news/local-news/3146963/plans-for-new-south-wiltshire-send-school-take-step-forward/ (SW England) It's part of proposal to ensure there are more places for SEND pupils within the county. Wiltshire Council have found an operator for a new school for young people with special educational needs and or disabilities in South Wiltshire. The authority announced last April that there would be a free site for 150 pupils. It has now been agreed that Reach South Academy Trust, who already run a similar facility in Wiltshire, will be in charge of the new site. … Cllr Laura Mayes, Cabinet Member for Children, Education and Skills, said: "This new school is going to make a huge difference to those families with SEND children in south Wiltshire. We are delighted that Reach South, with many years of experience, will be at the helm of an exciting new future."
Childhood Lost
Children today are noticeably different from previous generations, and the proof is in the news coverage we see every day. This site shows you what’s happening in schools around the world. Children are increasingly disabled and chronically ill, and the education system has to accommodate them. Things we've long associated with autism, like sensory issues, repetitive behaviors, anxiety and lack of social skills, are now problems affecting mainstream students. Blame is predictably placed on bad parenting (otherwise known as trauma from home).
Addressing mental health needs is as important as academics for modern educators. This is an unrecognized disaster. The stories here are about children who can’t learn or behave like children have always been expected to. What childhood has become is a chilling portent for the future of mankind.
