CHESHIRE East planners have this week given the go-ahead for a Wilmslow community centre to be converted into an annexe to accommodate extra pupils at a special school.

The council’s children and families committee approved the expansion of Springfield School on to the site of the former Dean Row Community Centre at the end of 2024.

This week planning permission was finally secured to change the empty building into a special school operated as an annexe of the adjacent school.

A report from the council’s planning officer states: “The council currently have to send a large proportion of their SEND (special educational needs and disability) pupils out of the borough due to the lack of provision within Cheshire East.

“It is advised that this facility would provide for 20 additional SEND spaces and its location, adjacent to the recently opened Springfield School, means that the facility can be an annexe to this main school.” . . .
