The project is backed by Halton and St Helens councils and will serve both areas if approved. A high school for children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) looks set to be opening in Widnes soon. If granted permission, The Raise Academy would be built on a field with a greenspace designation between Naylor Road and Fiddler’s Ferry Road, with the existing public car park to be expanded from 32 to 59 spaces as part of the development…. A design and access statement (DAS) submitted with the plans said The Youth Engagement School Trust will run The Raise Academy, which it said will have capacity for up to 64 pupils aged 11 to 16. … The Raise Academy’s home page said: “A brand new SEN Free School opening in September 2022 for up to 50 pupils aged 11-16 with a range of social, emotional and mental health difficulties.
