Aug 29, 2018, Times: Dozens of five-year-old pupils excluded for bad behaviour Dozens of five-year-olds are among more than 1,500 children aged ten and under taught in exclusion units linked to gangs, an investigation by The Times has found. This year record numbers of young children have been registered in pupil referral units (PRUs), including 58 aged five. The institutions, which teach pupils who have been expelled or have conditions that make them unsuitable for mainstream schools, have had their classes more than double in size over the past six years, records show. Children who have been expelled from primary schools include a boy who attacked a teacher with a hockey stick, another who kicked a teacher in her face as she bent over and an autistic girl who hit a teaching assistant….
