Helena Dollimore, MP for Hastings, Rye and the villages, has welcomed an £8 million investment from the Labour government to create more specialist places for children with SEND in East Sussex schools.

The funding forms part of a national drive to support more children in mainstream education.

Helena Dollimore said: "No parent should have to fight for their child to get a good education close to home.

"I've listened to SEND families across Hastings, Rye and the villages, and I know how much this matters. This £8 million is a real step forward.

"More specialist places in local schools, better support in the classroom and a commitment from the Labour Government to make sure every child can achieve and thrive."

This latest funding boost builds on Labour's landmark SEND reforms and represents a significant step towards ending the postcode lottery of SEND support across the country.

Councils will be required to adopt inclusive strategies and increase specialist capacity in mainstream schools.

Special schools can continue to serve children with the most complex needs. . . .
