Sunderland MP and Education Secretary Bridget Phillipson has opened a new £1.4m [$1.8M] education hub in the city named the Den to support children on the autistic spectrum.

The Den is located at Hetton Lyons Primary School and has been specifically designed to meet the needs of children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).

The facility includes a range of specialist spaces such as a sensory room, soft play area, and group room to support social, emotional, and physical development. These features provide a calm, engaging environment that helps children to feel safe, regulated, and ready to learn. . . .

The facility has already been used by children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). . . .

The Den will not only provide support for Hetton Lyons pupils but also children across the city.
