(UK) Stapleford: New autism school for 66 to open in March

Sept 10, 2025, Nottingham Post: Historic Nottinghamshire building saved as new autism school set to open

Previously the Arthur Mee Centre, Stapleford, was rumoured to be sold off to a developer, however those fears have been quashed as a new autism school is now set to open in the new year.

Options Autism has announced they are set to open a new autism school, in Church Street, for children between the ages of 7 and 18, and will have an intake of 66 pupils. The new school, which has a sister site in Bestwood, is set to open in March 2026 and will be named the Hemlock Stone School.

Councillor Richard MacRae spoke out after rumours that his old school, the Arthur Mee Centre, was the site of the new Hemlock School, in which he stated he wanted to see the school continue to be used as an educational facility.

Nottingham College decided to close the campus, which was previously used as a primary school, due to the Victorian structure not being fit for purpose. The site was then put on the market for £1,500,000 with estate agents at the time claiming it had "excellent development potential."
