Plans to create a new satellite school site in Southampton for children with special educational needs have been given the green light.
The proposal from Oaktree Education involves changing the building at 6 Northlands Road from its use as offices.
The site would create an additional facility to support the education provider’s main teaching operations.
A planning statement prepared on behalf of the applicant by Nova Planning said: “Oaktree Education is seeking to expand the teaching facilities available to them to help increase the number of students it can accommodate and improve the service it can provide. . . .
Plans for the school, which would be for children aged 11 to 16, show seven classrooms spread across the ground and first floor of the building, alongside a staffroom, office space and medical room. . . .
A condition of the planning permission limited the number of pupils at any one time to a maximum of 20, with staff capped at 10.
This was to ensure scale of the use remains appropriate to the site and surrounding area.
