(UK) Scarborough SPED school to expand due to "mounting pressure over...places required"

June 10, 2020, Scarborough News: North Yorkshire County Council has backed the permanent creation of satellite sixth-form facility for a specialist education school in Scarborough (NE England) https://www.thescarboroughnews.co.uk/education/special-needs-sixth-form-education-scarborough-wins-county-backing-2879832#gsc.tab=0 In 2017, Springhead School moved its sixth form onto the former Graham Lower School site in Lady Edith’s Drive due to mounting pressure over the number of places required. It has operated on the site since then and new the county council approved the permanent use of the site as a “satellite specialist sixth form provision” following a public consultation. As part of the consultation, the county council said that the expansion had benefited pupils, noting: “Prior to the temporary expansion on the new site the school could accommodate approximately 75 pupils with the relevant special educational needs. “As a result of the expansion on the additional site this has been increased to approximately 85 and this capacity will be made permanent by this proposal.” Springhead School, located in Barry’s Lane, admits pupils aged between two and 19 with a wide range of special educational needs and disabilities and was rated as “outstanding” by Ofsted following its most recent inspection in 2018…. The consultation over the permanent move of the sixth form to the Graham site was backed by parents of pupils at Springhead, with some saying the old sixth form was “overcrowded”.
