A former centre for deaf people could be merged with another building to create a special school. Plans have been lodged with Stoke-on-Trent City Council to convert The Ellis Centre and Wellesley House in Shelton into a special school for 11-to 18-year-olds…

. The school would cater for a maximum of 60 pupils and would have 30 full-time staff. And parking spaces for 30 staff and six visitors are included in the plans.

A report to the city council's planning committee states: "The facility is intended for 11-18 year old pupils with special educational needs. …
