Last month planning permission was granted for an extension at Maes Ebbw School's main site in Maesglas Road to provide space for seven more classrooms. And next week Newport City Council's cabinet member for education and skills Cllr Gail Giles is due to sign off on a plan to increase the number of places at the school from 100 to 150 from next April. The development is estimated to cost £3.5 million, or £74,468 per extra pupil, and will be funded entirely by the Welsh Government's 21st Century Schools programme. A council report said the school, which also operates at sites in Brynglas and Eveswell and is open to children and teenagers aged from three to 19 had found itself under increasing pressure with the number of youngsters in need of specialist education….
