What will happen in another 4 years? How can we go on like this? This is a national (and international) problem of monumental proportions. We have an entire new class of children who cannot be accommodated by the system: many are manifestly neurologically impaired. Meanwhile, the government and the medical profession sleep on regardless.

Visitors with special needs will be able to pick up a special backpack at a Sunderland attraction, filled with specially-chosen items, to help them make the most of their trip.

The National Glass Centre is to launch its Sensory Backpacks from Monday - marking the start of World Autism Acceptance Week - and they can be filled with a pick-and-mix of resources, catered to individual needs. The intention is to ensure that people of all ages and abilities can be offered an alternative way to enjoy their visit….
