Dec 11, 2018, Evening Telegraph: Mum slams Montrose school after daughter, 5, ‘left all day in filthy room worse than prison cell’ https://www.eveningtelegraph.co.uk/fp/mum-slams-montrose-school-after-daughter-5-left-all-day-in-filthy-room-worse-than-prison-cell/ A mum claims she has had to remove her five-year-old daughter from school because she’s being kept in a “filthy” room she describes as “worse than a prison cell”. Mary Hodge, 29, from Montrose, said she is so disgusted at the treatment of her daughter Charlotte, who has additional support needs, that she has no plans to send her back to Borrowfield Primary. … She had initially been placed in a sensory room but Mary said she was then moved into a “tiny and filthy” isolation area…. Mary, a carer, said: “The school has failed my daughter. Charlotte is being assessed by the mental health team and a child psychologist as it’s suspected she has either ADHD or autism. “When she needed to go to the toilet, a teacher held the door to keep it closed and Charlotte ended up biting the teacher’s hand because she was so desperate to get out. “She has already been diagnosed with sensory issues and things were put in place for her at the school to help. A child psychologist said that she should have sensory and play learning but instead she was put into a dirty room. “I would lose my mind if I was stuck in that room for an hour – never mind if I was in there a full school day.”…
