The Discovery Special Academy will educate 84 pupils at the former Nature’s World site, off Sandy Flatts Lane, Middlesbrough, after councillors gave the bid the thumbs up on Friday. Council leaders agreed the sale of 4.5 acres of land near the former attraction in 2019 – with a school for youngsters aged four to 11 with complex and significant communication, physical and educational needs set to come to the site. Proposals for the academy were first unveiled in 2017 and all planning committee members were behind the school plan.
