July 27, 2026, Shropshire Live: New 60-Place SEND School Site to Open in Madeley

A new satellite site providing 60 places for children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) will open in Madeley this September.

Telford & Wrekin Council has partnered with local education leaders to split the site of John Fletcher of Madeley Primary School into two sections. One section will continue to house the mainstream primary school, while the other will operate as an extension of The Bridge School.

The new arrangement comes as building work takes place on-site to create two new classrooms alongside refreshed facilities.

Growing demand for specialist school places

Councillor Shirley Reynolds, Cabinet Member for Children, Young People, Education, Employment & Skills, said:

“As a Council, we recognise the growing demand for specialist school places for children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities.

“While many children who require additional support can thrive within mainstream education, this is not the right setting for every child. With John Fletcher of Madeley Primary School able to offer space within its building, we saw an opportunity to take an innovative approach. . . .
