According to the Cumbria Education Trust, the dedicated room is designed to support pupils’ emotional wellbeing, offering a calm environment where children can "reflect, regulate, and feel supported."
A spokesperson for the trust said: "It offers pupils a peaceful area to talk, share their feelings, or simply spend time grounding themselves through calming activities and sensory resources." . . .
To mark the opening, special guests attended, including the Learning Provision team at the school, parents, grandparents, children and other members of the community.
According to the trust, the space has received positive feedback from both parents and pupils. . . .
One teaching assistant said: "It’s a lovely space for children to go to regulate – they can return to their classroom more settled."
A trust spokesperson said: "The Safe Space provides children with calmness, grounding resources, and opportunities to talk openly about their emotions.
"It empowers them to develop positive coping strategies and supports their overall wellbeing – helping every child feel safe, understood, and ready to learn."
A plaque is being made to commemorate the opening and is set to be displayed at the entrance to the room.
