(UK) Lincs: Plans for 100 place special school submitted "as demand continues to rise"

Nov 26, 2025, Lincs Online: Bracebridge Heath independent school would provide ‘much needed opportunity’ for children with special education needs

Plans for an independent school would provide a ‘much-needed opportunity’ for SEND children who aren’t in education, the company behind it says.

It would create 100 spaces by converting an empty NHS office building in Bracebridge Heath, near Lincoln. . . .

The application comes as the county’s education system is struggling to deal with the number of students being recognised as having special educational needs and disabilities (SEND.)

It would employ between 25 and 35 members of staff.

Planning documents say: “The applicant has had positive discussions with Lincolnshire County Council that a school in this area would provide much needed opportunity for special needs children currently not in education.” . . .

Lincolnshire County Council reported in October that it was £22million [$29M] over its SEND budget for the financial year already, as demand continues to rise.

Council-run special needs schools are full, meaning the authority is having to rely on private placements. . . .

It has recently launched plans for ‘SEND hubs’ to enable children to remain in mainstream schools through adaptations and a specialised curriculum.
