(UK) Kidderminster: Elem schools gets $460K for SPED unit for 24 students
A KIDDERMINSTER primary school has officially opened a new specialist facility supporting children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).
St John's CE Primary School has welcomed the opening of The Nest, a dedicated SEND unit providing tailored education for up to 24 pupils.
The facility received £348,943 [$460K] from Worcestershire County Council and includes two classrooms, two sensory rooms, specialist teaching facilities, an outdoor area and an accessible bathroom.
The Nest opened to Reception and Key Stage 1 pupils in April, before expanding to Key Stage 2 children in September.
It supports pupils from Reception to Year 6 with communication and interaction needs, while allowing them to participate in mainstream lessons and playtimes where appropriate. . . .
The council is working with other Worcestershire schools to develop additional specialist support units.
