THE Isle of Wight Council has announced expansion plans following a review ¬— to help improve SEND specialist support on the Island. Proposals for two new resource provisions for children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities will be considered by the council's cabinet on Thursday. The plans, which follow a consultation, include specialist places for up to eight children with complex learning difficulties, with or without additional speech language and communication needs, at Brading Primary School. They also include places for up to 15 students with social and emotional mental health at Medina College, Newport. A recent review of specialist places for children and young people with an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) showed further provision was needed, both at primary and secondary education. Cllr Debbie Andre, who leads on children's services, education and skills, said: "We want every child to have the support they need to dream big and achieve highly, no matter what challenges they face. "With more than 1,210 children and young people on the Island with an EHCP, we are committed to ensuring all children have access to the type of education that best meets their needs….
