Sept 8, 2025, My News Mag: NECESSARY EXPANSION: ‘All systems go’ as extra funding confirmed for Abbots Langley school relocation
Breakspeare School is a step closer to moving out of Abbots Langley after additional funding was confirmed.
The special needs school, based in Gallows Hill Lane, will move to Croxley after Hertfordshire County Council (HCC) gave its unanimous approval at a cabinet meeting to increase the original £32million [$43M] budget by more than 30 per cent.
The school is expected to open in its new location at the former Durrants School playing field in September 2028 and will enable the school to provide an additional 113 places for children with learning difficulties.
Lib Dem councillor Mark Watkin, HCC’s executive member for education, SEND and inclusion, said: “Liberal Democrats are delivering on our pledge to ease the special needs crisis in Hertfordshire.
“We are delighted that more than 100 extra children will benefit from the wonderful work of Breakspeare School, and the world-class specialist education they provide. . . .
