(UK) Hamble: $1.5M to add support for 15 autistic students in local school

Jan 18, 2026, Daily Echo: Specialist autism support provision at The Hamble School

Plans to spend £1.1m [$1.5M] and expand specialist support for pupils with autism at a school in Hamble are set to be approved by Hampshire County Council.

The proposal will go before the county council’s cabinet member for education on January 21, with funding expected to be signed off for the creation of a new resourced provision for up to 15 pupils with autism spectrum conditions.

If approved, the scheme would see a new double modular building installed at The Hamble School in Satchell Lane, providing dedicated teaching and support space tailored to the needs of autistic students.

The provision will operate as part of the mainstream secondary school, allowing pupils to be educated locally while receiving specialist support.

The development forms part of Hampshire County Council’s wider strategy to increase special educational needs provision within mainstream schools, helping to meet growing demand and reduce the need for children to travel long distances to specialist settings.

The new facilities are planned to be delivered during 2026, with the provision expected to open in phases from September 2026. The changes will not increase the school’s overall pupil numbers. . . .
